How Johnny Depp got his acting from Charlie Chaplin free essay sample
Johnny Chapton Johnny Depp is one of this generationââ¬â¢s most talented actor. His character development is beyond compare. Johnny Depp has acted in a plethora of movies, but in Benny and Joon and some others, his physical movements are very similar to some very famous silent film actors. Johnnyââ¬â¢s character, Sam, is an eccentric one: heââ¬â¢s awkward, silly, and has a very imaginative mind. Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton acted as fathers to Johnnyââ¬â¢s acting, leading him to new ideas, more characters in his career, extreme physical movement, and more explosive entertainment. In Benny and Joon, Johnny Deppââ¬â¢s physical reactive, and emotional acting strongly represents Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Firstly, I believe Charlie Chaplin influenced Johnnyââ¬â¢s acting. During the first few scenes, Joon, Sam, and Benny eat at a bar, while waiting, Sam entertains himself by sticking forks into bread and makes them ââ¬Å"dance. We will write a custom essay sample on How Johnny Depp got his acting from Charlie Chaplin or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â⬠This ââ¬Å"dance can also be seen performed by the famous Mr. Chaplin in ââ¬Å"Gold Rush.â⬠Also in Benny and Joon, when Joon confesses her love for him, his facial expressions and his stance on the bed is a stunning image of Chaplin in one of his silent films. And how can we forget the swinging from the window washer station at the end of the movie? I also believe that was influenced by the whacky all-bearing Charlie Chaplin. Secondly, Buster Keatonââ¬â¢s whacky character shines through Johnny Deppââ¬â¢s acting in the film Benny and Joon. The movie cover/ propaganda poster of Benny and Joon has a certain recognizable hat too. The standout scene for Johnny is when his character, Sam, drops his hat and cannot retrieve it because the hat seems to be running away from him. Also, when his hat and handkerchief is making him do flips all kinds of tricks, Keaton also shines through. Also, the first scene with Johnny in it, where he is making music with car parts and balancing and juggling them, this also reminds me of Buster and his amazing physicalities. Finally, in my opinion, Johnny Depp was more influenced by Buster Keaton than Charlie Chaplin. The only standout scene that was most influenced by Chaplin occurred in the diner when ââ¬Å"Samâ⬠was playing with the forks and bread rolls. Buster Keatonââ¬â¢s physicality can often be seen throughout the movie, such as the very first scene ââ¬Å"Samâ⬠is introduced, the park scene, and the swinging from the hospital scene. Each of those scenes almost looked painful, but Johnny himself performed everything, including falling on his rear end during the park scene. All the flips and almost everything with the hats was influenced by Buster Keaton. In conclusion, Johnny Depp is a standout actor with many creative and ââ¬Å"differentâ⬠roles. His performance of ââ¬Å"Sam ââ¬Å" in Benny and Joon was extremely relatable and influenced by the famous silent film stars, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Theyââ¬â¢re whacky and aw-worthy performances can be see, slightly changed by Johnny. Being practically fathers of Johnny Deppââ¬â¢s acting in Benny and Joon and other movies, theyââ¬â¢ve created the wonderful, funny, and entertaining Johnny Chapton.

The strategic alliance
Introduction and background of strategic alliance A global perspective is necessary for businesses since it assists in the process of identifying the prevailing threats and opportunities in the contemporary marketing arena. In spite of the fact that it is necessary to safeguard a business against global competition, it is vital to note that firms should seek ways and means of penetrating into international marketplace.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The strategic alliance specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For example, Barnes and Nobles bookstore entered into strategic alliance with Starbucks way back in 1993. The rationale behind the partnership was to put in place in-house coffee shops, an alliance that would benefit both parties. As a matter of fact, there are myriad of opportunities that are usually created when businesses penetrate into the global market. At this point, it is often of great importance for a f irm to choose the most appropriate entry mode. While there are a host of entry modes that can be chosen by a business organization, it is worth noting that both economic merits and demerits of the chosen alternative should be assessed thoroughly. One of the most viable ways through which a firm can integrate its activities in the international platform is by creating strategic alliances. The term strategic alliance has been approached and described from different perspectives by various economic scholars. According to Inkpen (2003, p.84), whenever there is a formal agreement between two or more like minded firms to collaborate for the purpose of attaining common goals and objectives, it is referred to as a global strategic alliance. This kind of partnership is mostly common among international firms that are aiming at winning the market share by customer value creation or through competitive advantage. For instance, the Beijing University Founder Group and Advanced Micro Devices (AM D) of China formed a strategic alliance in a bid to improve its market share. AMD deals with computer sale to the founder group. The university is deemed to benefit from subsidized pricing. In yet another definition of strategic alliance, Beverland and Bretherton (2001, p.89) posit that it may also refer to myriad of well established economic partnership between potential and actual competitors in the marketplace. This paper offers a succinct discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of strategic alliance as an entry mode into international market using specific key illustrations of firms that have adopted this mode. There are various reasons why firms would opt to ally with other business entities. In the case of an alliance, the partnering firms are in a vantage position to shoulder the burden of costs that are both fixed and varied alongside the incoming risks during the process of developing new products or services. In addition, alliances allow the integration of complemen tary assets and skills which may not be easily developed by either of the firm.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Nonetheless, it is worth noting that firms forming an alliance should be extra cautious since such partnerships may end up being a liability to a business organization. It is also worth noting that joint ventures, licensing of technology as well as a collaborative effort may all be considered under strategic alliance. In the case of a collaborative effort, two firms often come together to form an alliance by pulling their efforts together for the sake of common benefit to both partners. When the production or service methods of a firm is licensed by another firm, it results into a form of strategic alliance called licensing technology. However, when two or more firms agree on a common platform of producing goods and services, it leads into a strategic alliance referred to as a joint venture. The latter form of strategic alliance is definitely the most common entry mode into a global marketplace. Needless to say, strategic alliances in the modern business world has gained prominence in the sense that a synergetic effect of solving common challenges, pooling resources together as well the sharing costs and risks are indeed necessary for positive and sustained business growth. Furthermore, it is also evident that most international businesses are also developing dynamic strategies and perspective on how to manage their establishments. This has been accelerated by the fast rate at which the practice of strategic alliance is taking shape. For example, PaperExchange.com deals with the manufacture of paper related products and is located in Boston, United States of America. The firm has grown by leaps and bounds from 12 employees in 1998 up to more than two hundred and fifty members today (Reeves et al. 2002, p.14). The company has subsidiary locations in over 80 countries across the world. It does not own or sell any products by itself but provides an e-commerce marketplace where buyers and sellers can reach out to each other. Some of the products handled by the industry include tissue paper, fine paper, newsprint, paperboard and containerboard. Buyers and sellers are able to negotiate pricing of products directly through this site. As part of its expansion plans, there are a total of four industries through which PaperExchange.com shares a strategic alliance. These include internet providers who deal with electronic commerce, quality certifications and assurance, transportation logistics and suppliers, consumers and manufacturers of paper products.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The strategic alliance specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Under t he e-commerce segment, it has formed their strategic alliances with the following firms: Noosh, Inc., Impresse, Inc., and VerticalNet, Inc. There are other five alliances within the paper product segment namely Port Townsend, Inc., Bowater, Inc., Staples, Inc., Asia Pulp and Paper Company , Ltd and International Paper, Inc (Reeves et al. 2002, p.15). While the concept of strategic alliance is highly welcome and readily embraced by most modern firms, it should be approached with caution bearing in mind that there are underlying advantages and disadvantages which may be reaped by a firm. Advantages and drawbacks of strategic alliance One of the most outstanding benefit or merit of strategic alliance is that it provides a state-of-the-art globalization of businesses. As a matter of fact, several factors such as well enhanced systems of transport and communication as well as the development of international network (internet) has been of great importance to firms opting for strategic al liance. For instance, Weyerhaeuer, Georgia-Pacific and international Paper have also formed a strong strategic alliance to pursue their business interests. They are all forest product companies located in the U.S. running a business to business global marketing platform since year 2000. Most countries do embrace the concept of strategic alliance but based on the legal provisions that have already been put in place. In addition, the goals and needs of the partnering firms is usually a major determinant prior to the formation of a strategic alliance. The following are some of the inherent advantages of strategic alliance: Gaining capabilities In most cases, a business enterprise may not have all the human expertise, technology, skills, knowledge and competences it requires at its disposal. As a result, the need to share unique and the much needed capabilities is often of great essence to any firm wishing to expand to international market. On the other hand, a firm may find it necessar y to share its outstanding capabilities so that it can gain in terms of economic well being. It is imperative to note that no single firm can secure all the much needed capabilities that it may require. Therefore, a strategic alliance provides an ambient environment through which partnering firms can meet set goals and objectives. The newly acquired competences from the strategic alliance plan can also be used by a firm for long term gains towards meeting the needs of consumers and remaining relevant in the market.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Improved accessibility to target markets When a single firm decides to introduce a new product or service into the market, it may not be an easy task. The situation gets even trickier when a global market has to be accessed. It is worth noting that cost related advantages may not be in favour of a firm which undertakes such developments single handedly. Some of the obstacles that the management of a firm may face include operating complexity, untenable government regulations as well as stiff market completion (Shenkar Luo 2004, p.259). In addition, lack of proper assessment of the marketplace, direct financial losses and reduced opportunity costs may also befall a single firm entering a foreign market. It is against this background t hat when an appropriate strategic alliance is chosen, it would assist in minimizing some of the risks and challenges. For example, accessibility to the market can be improved when a firm opts to license a service or product in the name of the alliance partner as part and parcel of broadening the market for the given product (Pansiri 2005, p.1109). Financial risk sharing The financial risks associated with running an international enterprise can be reduced if strategic alliance is adopted. For instance, firms will usually end up sharing any risks associated with financial losses incurred in a strategic alliance partnership. Hence, no single firm will fully shoulder the burden of such risks in case of an eventuality (Harper 2001, p.30). Eradicating the political obstacle Strict legal regulations coupled with inhospitable political environment might indeed hinder the marketing success of a new product being introduced into a new market. The best solution for this hindrance is the forma tion of strategic alliance which will take care of new products of a foreign firm which will be introduced through a partnering firm already located in a foreign country. Attaining competitive advantage and synergy both competitive advantage and synergy will be readily generated in a strategic alliance business setting. Through joint efforts, each firm in an alliance will be in a position to gain these two elements in a much easier way. For instance, it is quite cumbersome to create a distinct image of a new brand in the market and also convince consumers on the same. The process may be time consuming and costly. Hence, a firm with a well known brand in the market may be used to usher in a new product into the market. For instance, Microsoft and Nokia entered a strategic alliance whereby more advanced and market compliant products are to be manufactured. This will indeed boost their competitive advantage and synergy in the market. Drawbacks of strategic alliance Inability to overcom e cultural and language barriers There are myriad of cultural setbacks that a foreign firm may find it difficult to address while expanding its business portfolio. For example, the alliance between International Business Machine (IBM) and i-flex solutions faced a lot of cultural setbacks as the firms attempted to penetrate new markets. Handing operating practices that are diverse or conflicting in nature Two or more partnering firms may not have common practices and therefore it may take long to harmonize individual operations. Cost disadvantages, lack of trust and harmony There are myriad of coordination costs incurred an also consumes time before trust within the alliance is built and also during the process of communication. Lack of formidable trust between partners especially when cooperating in competitively sensitive businesses is a serious setback in most strategic alliances which may also lead to lack of harmony in company cultures and egos Conflicting standards of ethics, c orporate values, strategies and objectives Since organizations forming a strategic alliance are usually from diverse backgrounds in terms of objectives or products and services being offered, it is definite that conflicts are likely to arise from time to time Over-reliance One or both of the partnering firms in strategic alliance may develop dependency syndrome on the much needed capabilities over a long period of time. Conclusion In summing up, it is imperative to reiterate that strategic alliance is one of the most dominant and viable entry mode into a global marketplace. As already discussed, merits such as gained capabilities, low operating costs, minimized risks and easy access to the market are usually accrued by firms engaging in strategic alliance. In addition, the essay has addressed some case studies firms that have partnered in strategic alliance. A case example is Apple Computers with Sony Mobile. Finally, it is also worth noting that any form of strategic alliance shoul d be approached with caution since it may lead to liabilities if not properly checked. Suicide prevention Professor Ramos Blog
Suicide prevention Depression causes many things from anxiety, to social regression, and most of all suicidal tendencies. à According to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention, there are about 105 suicides per day. Some people have either attempted suicide or has had an ideation about it. Suicide is the act of intentionally causing oneââ¬â¢s own death. Not only does it affect adults but children as well. 1 in 100,000 children age 10 to 14 dies by suicide each year. Itââ¬â¢s a topic that you donââ¬â¢t really bring up to kids but itââ¬â¢s something that you should talk about with your children. It should be implemented in schools since children and teens are in school most of the day. Some stressors such as managing a workload, worrying about if the fit in and finding the balance with school and home can be stressful too. There are many life stressors that contribute to it such as mental illness, relationship problems, bullying, financial difficulties or a recent loss of someone clo se to you. There are many risk factors and we need to be more vigilant and know the warning signs for it such as aggressive behavior, talking about death, and social withdrawal. The sooner you see the warning signs the better in getting the help they need right away. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of deaths in the United States. Since the rates are rising we need to find ways we can prevent it. For example, having school-based awareness programs for kids and teenagers Such as letting them know they can speak to their teachers or their parents if they are feeling suicidal. Since school or home life can be stressful it would help to possibly have an emotional support service dog, An emotional support dog can be beneficial by providing mental and physical benefits They can come in throughout the day to provide comfort. In these programs they could learn how to create a safe environment for themselves, they would learn different kinds of coping skills and problem-solving skills. Another way would be to take medication for mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety or trauma-related disorders. There are currently about 22 antidepressant medications that are approved by the FDA that can help out. These could be a risk factor as well.à With the help of medication or talk therapy, it can be a great big help to some people. Talk therapy such as counseling, or a psychiatrist will give you a better understanding of your mental health, how to overcome your fears, how to improve your relationships with friends, family and yourself. With their help, you both can work together to manage your stress and improve the quality of your life. Lastly, we have suicide prevention hotlines that can help. Maybe you are not comfortable speaking to someone in person. Hotlines would help by phone or text there are many ways you can get help. Itââ¬â¢s a safe place where they keep everything confidential and its free. You will be set up with a crisis worker who is trained to help people with emotional distress or if they are having a suicidal crisis. Maybe you are seeking help for a friend or you are worried about a friend they will help you and provide resources on what to do and how to get help quickly. These programs could help prevent suicides by bringing awareness to it. It can save lives too by educating children at a young age thatââ¬â¢s itââ¬â¢s okay to speak to someone if they are feeling sad, lost, hopeless. Learning these skills at an early age would help them when they become an adult. Teachers should also be mandated to know the warning signs of their students if they are a suicidal risk. As a result, by having these programs kids will learn many ways to prevent suicides. They would also learn how to effectively manage stressors and what to do if they are having a problem. Mental illness can be another risk factor and can be helped by taking medication or talking to a medical professional. Another way would be to call a suicide hotline. That is why itââ¬â¢s important to speak to your children about this topic even though it can be overwhelming but we have to teach them at a young age so they can use these skills when they become adults. 10 Classes of Careless Usage
10 Classes of Careless Usage 10 Classes of Careless Usage 10 Classes of Careless Usage By Mark Nichol If you find yourself making any of the following types of errors, general or specific, brush up on your writing with grammar guides and usage handbooks and/or any or all of the other strategies mentioned at the end of this post. 1. Appending an s to words in which, in most usage, the letter should not be included (for example, regards, as in ââ¬Å"in regards toâ⬠) or that, in American English, have dropped it altogether (backward). (Using the -st ending in such words as amidst and amongst is a similar sign of poor usage.) 2. Using the incorrect form of pronouns writing, for example, ââ¬Å"My friend and myselfâ⬠instead of ââ¬Å"My friend and Iâ⬠or ââ¬Å"That happened to she and I at the same timeâ⬠rather than ââ¬Å"That happened to her and me at the same time.â⬠(If you donââ¬â¢t like the way that sentence looks, either, write, ââ¬Å"That happened to both of us at the same time.â⬠) 3. Using unnecessarily complicated words or phrases in favor of simpler, well-established terms: utilize instead of use, ââ¬Å"prior toâ⬠in place of before, subsequently instead of later. 4. Using nonwords: irregardless, supposably, theirselves. 5. Using plural forms of words instead of singular ones: ââ¬Å"a criteria,â⬠ââ¬Å"a phenomena.â⬠6. Using less when fewer is appropriate: ââ¬Å"There are less boxes than I thoughtâ⬠instead of ââ¬Å"There are fewer boxes than I thought.â⬠7. Using euphemisms: ââ¬Å"He passed away last yearâ⬠instead of ââ¬Å"He died last year.â⬠8. Using badly in place of bad in such sentences as ââ¬Å"He feels badly about the decision.â⬠9. Adding extraneous prepositions: ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s too small of a shirt for you.â⬠10. Employing erroneous wording of idiomatic phrases: ââ¬Å"for all intensive purposesâ⬠instead of ââ¬Å"for all intents and purposes.â⬠So, how do you know if youââ¬â¢re making such mistakes? Printing this representative list out and tacking it up next to your computer is all well and good for reminding you about these ten pitfalls, but what about the hundreds of others that plague writers? A combination of strategies is called for: Do Your Homework Borrow or buy some of the books listed in the post I linked to in the first paragraph, or check out the resources reviewed on this site. You neednââ¬â¢t read these guides cover to cover; just browse each one to determine whether its content or presentation style is appropriate for you, then, a few pages at a time, work your way through the ones that work for you. Read Role Models Seek out high-quality prose: leading magazines and newspapers and great literature. You donââ¬â¢t have to give up reading your favorite blogs or pulp fiction (some of which is/are very well written), but divide your leisure reading between the exemplary and the acceptable so that you can distinguish between the two and recognize well-constructed prose. Go Back to School Take a writing or editing class, whether offered as part of a universityââ¬â¢s regular curriculum or as a continuing-education course. Whether you earned an MA in literature is irrelevant. You probably didnââ¬â¢t focus on the mechanics of writing during your college years, but now itââ¬â¢s time to do so. Ask for Backup Get a friend or a colleague whose writing or editing skills you respect to look over shorter pieces for you and flag grammar and usage errors. (Emphasize that youââ¬â¢d like them to merely call out the problems; youââ¬â¢ll solve them.) This strategy doesnââ¬â¢t work if youââ¬â¢ve completed a novel or a thick report, unless you can pay or trade for services, but when applied to short stories or modest work projects, it will help you develop your skills. LAW Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
LAW - Essay Example Trademarks could be any combination of words, names or symbols that are used in commerce as brand names, tag lines, slogans, non-functional and distinctive packaging and labeling designs, etc. to indicate the source of a product or service. Only non-functional elements are protected by law as trademark rights Functional aspects of a product or service are covered under patent law with a limited term of protection whereas trademarks are not limited in term (except by nonuse) (Trademarks Basics, n.d.). The law that protects registered trademarks and trademarks registration in the UK is the Trademark Acts of 1994 as amended (Intellectual, n.d). In addition, the European Union has implemented regulations to harmonize the laws of trademarks among its member states, including the United Kingdom (The trademarks, n.d). If a trademark is not registered, the original creator does not necessarily lose all rights to his works. Under UK common law, it is possible to take civil action. To make a s uccessful claim, the owner must prove that the mark belongs to him, that the alleged owner has built a reputation using this mark and that he has suffered some damage because of the unauthorized use (Ibid). Trade marks can also be protected in the United Kingdom via common law rights established under what is called "passing off." The "passing off rights are established by the use of a brand and the establishment of goodwill (Registering, 2008). However, it is preferable to register a mark, as opposed to relying on common law passing off rights, as you have to prove that you have established goodwill to succeed in a passing off action. Also, passing off rights can be limited to a local area, whereas a UK Trade Mark registration automatically covers the whole of the UK (Ibid). The doctrine of Common law ââ¬Å"passing offâ⬠works in a way that the owner of a mark can acquire some rights without registering his mark. A trader who uses a mark acquires ââ¬Å"goodwillâ⬠in ass ociation with that mark. ââ¬Å"Goodwillâ⬠has been defined as the quality, which causes a customer to go to one particular trader rather than any other (Ibid). The owner of a trademark can sue another trader who uses that mark in such a way as to confuse the public into believing that his goods are those of the owner of the mark. This is a ââ¬Å"passing-offâ⬠action (The Basics, n.d.). At common law, a trademark is obtained by adopting and using the trademark, in association with goods or services offered for commerce ( Larson, 2003).. The mark must be placed in actual use before protection is available. Once the mark becomes associated in the mind of the public with the particular good or service, the common law trademark is established. Ordinarily, the geographic scope of the common law trademark is limited to the area of use. The three fundamental elements to passing off are reputation, misrepresentation, and damage to goodwill, which are sometimes known as the classi cal trinity, as restated by the English House of Lords in the case of Reckitt & Colman Ltd v Borden Inc [1990] 1 RPC1 341 1 (the Jif Lemon case) (Passing n.d). Passing off does not recognize them as property in its own right, but prevents one person from misrepresenting his or her goods or services as being the goods and services of another person or the plaintiff in infringement proceedings. The law of passing off is designed to prevent misrepresentation to the public

Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Subprime Mortgage Crisis - Essay Example This all lies in the fundamental of economics that teaches us that diversification is king and solution for reducing financial risk. It has now come back to haunt us. What can we learn from this That Harry Markowitz, father of financial risk management, and Thomas Friedman, father of globalization should maybe start writing about the correlation of such economics! Unfortunately, it is not that simple. But before we unleash an economic debate on this painful economic downturn we should intellectually dissect the individuals and the players responsible for the causes and facts that have resulted in the inevitable financial depression in the real estate industry. "It started with the real, it will end will real estate." "Sub-Prime lending typically has been characterized as lending at relatively costly interest rates and fees to credit impaired or otherwise high risk borrowers." (Lax, Manti, Raca, & Zorn, 2004). Subprime loans are among the newly popular mortgage products, such as interest-only loans, for people with strained budgets, including first-time buyers. Homeowners increasingly use them to refinance and consolidate household debts when their credit scores fall in the wake of bankruptcy, high medical bills, or other setbacks. (Blanton, 2005). It is generally believed that the subprime borrowers emerge due to lack of the good credit history on their back and since there number grew historically therefore banks and financial institutions by spotting the opportunity started lending to them at higher interest rates due to the perceived risks involved in these subprime loans. Not only these subprime borrowers pay higher interest rates but they also pay higher upfront fees also at the time of boo king their loans. Due to this profitable alterative, financial institutions take the risk and lend to those customers who would otherwise can not qualify for obtaining loans from the banking channels in the ordinary course of the business. In nutshell, we can say that subprime lending is lending to those who do not deserve it. US Housing Bubble Most of the subprime lending is made into the mortgages market of the Banks. Studies suggest that So-called subprime loans have helped boost US homeownership to a record 69 percent of households. They are being tapped by borrowers in all income ranges, who struggle with poor credit ratings stemming from modest incomes or excessive credit card or other debts. In Massachusetts, subprime loans, fueled by refinancing, have grown from 1.6 percent of mortgages in 2000 to 12.3 percent today. (Blanton, 2005). Apart from that, the surge in the mortgage market was a result of generous monetary policy stance adapted by FED in order to ease the recession caused by the dot com bubble. Due to this reason, the interest rates were lowered by FED. This reduction in interest rates also induced financial institutions to lower the interest rates on the mortgages also. With the lowering interest rates, the demand for the homes increased which ultimately raised the prices for the new homes. In order to capture this rise in the property market, many financial institutions started easing off their standards to bring in more and more customers. This loosening in the standards allowed those borrowers to obtain mortgage loans who were otherwise not eligible to obtain the loans. Once these loans were obtained and subsequently securitized by the issuing financial

Mcdonalds vs Burger King Essay Example for Free
Mcdonalds vs Burger King Essay In 1940, McDonaldââ¬â¢s was first opened in San Bernardino, California by two men, Dick and Mac McDonald. At first, it was called McDonaldââ¬â¢s Bar-B-Que. In 1948, the restaurant was shut down for three months for alterations. The menu was reduced to nine items: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, soft drinks, coffee, potato chips, and a slice of pie. They then changed their name to McDonalds as they changed their menu and stop serving Bar-b-Que. In 1954, Burger King was first opened by Keith Kramer and his wife. It was first named Insta Burger King, because they used an insta broiler. Since it was failing in 1959, James McLamore and David R. Edgerton purchased it and changed its name to Burger King. The duo ran the company as an independent entity for eight years, eventually expanding to over 250 locations in the United States, when they sold it to the Pillsbury Company in 1967. The menu has evolved from just burgers, fries, and shakes to just about everything that McDonalds has. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has a mascot that is named Ronald McDonald. So, in order to keep up with what McDonaldââ¬â¢s was doing, Burger King came up with their own mascot not too far from McDonaldââ¬â¢s, they have the King as there mascot. Burger King has recently fired the King mascot, because they said a couple commercials scared children. They have yet found another mascot. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has the Ronald McDonald House to help sick kids. Burger King has not done that as of yet, but they do have what is called the Burger King scholarship, which is available to employees and their family. I have worked for Burger King for almost four years, and I cannot stand the food they have there. Every week, Burger King copies something on the McDonaldââ¬â¢s menu. I do not understand why they cannot create their own ideas. McDonalds, to me, has better tasting burgers and fries. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has fried burgers and Burger King has grilled burgers. But Burger Kings burgers do not have a charcoal taste because they use a gas broiler, so to me it tastes like burned meat. I love the taste of McDonaldââ¬â¢s burgers and fries. My favorite is the mcdouble or the big mac. Everything that McDonaldââ¬â¢s Burger King is not too far behind. Starting next week Burger King is getting rid of the cheesy bacon wrap and getting the breakfast burrito. Just like McDonalds. Next week we are also getting some familiar thing from McDonalds like the frapachino, smoothies, new salads, and new flavored coffees. They are also in talks to come out with a cookie called the Kings cookies. Starting no later than mid-June Burger King will be getting all new uniforms that are almost the same as McDonalds. The managers such as me will have white shirts with ties, and the crew members will have red shirts. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has the big mac Burger King have the deluxe topper which is the same as the big mac but just has two slices of bread and one thick meat patty. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has ice cream cones for a dollar; Burger King just got ice cream cones for a dollar. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has a spice chicken sandwich Burger King have a spicy chicken both for a dollar. McDonalds has chicken nuggets Burger King has chicken tenders. Burger King is getting a southern style chicken sandwich called the King crispy chicken sandwich McDonaldââ¬â¢s has the original home style chicken sandwich. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has the quarter pounder, and Burger King has the chefââ¬â¢s choice or the whopper. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has the fish filet Burger King has the big fish. One thing I can say about Burger King is they have croissants and onion rings where McDonalds does not. This week we have got some more familiar items like McDonalds. White bags, we use to have the big brown bags that said Burger king all over them, now Burger King has white bags, just like McDonalds that say Burger King only in the top corner. And when it comes to the chicken tenders or chicken Mcnuggets again Burger King is trying to copy McDonalds once again. We use to have chicken tenders shaped like a crown or a lightning bolt. But when they looked at the sales of McDonaldââ¬â¢s chicken nuggets and our chicken tenders they put them under construction and now we have chicken tenders just like the ones McDonalds has shape and all. But the ones Burger Kingââ¬â¢s has are not as crispy and the ones McDonalds has. They say they are all white meat but I beg to differ. If it is all white meat then it is the bone to. I must say that the new chicken tenders at Burger king are much better than the old one I would still rather have the ones from McDonalds then from Burger king. McDonalds has chicken select and Burger King has just came out with chicken strips. Everything right down to the size count and the sauces to go with it. One thing that Burger King is starting new is that they are trying to introduce all fresh items on its menu. They are using new fresh cut lettuces, onions, salads, and trying to become a healthier restaurant. Something new that McDonalds is trying is in their kidââ¬â¢s meals they are giving a smaller fry and also giving the kids apple slices. Burger King has yet to jump on this concept, but Iââ¬â¢m sure it is not too far behind. So as you can see right down to the mascot Burger King is trying to keep up with everything that McDonalds does. The fast food business is a multi-billion dollar industry. The two businesses running in the lead is McDonaldââ¬â¢s and Burger King. McDonalds is still the leader of the pack with Burger King not too far behind. The two fast food businesses are in close competition with each other. And have sales above all the rest. There are McDonaldââ¬â¢s and Burger King corporate and franchises stores all over the world. McDonaldââ¬â¢s has more stores both corporate and franchise store all over the world. But Burger King is not too far behind. Pretty much, whichever restaurant you go to, you will get the same kind of items. Fast food will always be the most popular choice in the hospitality industry, for those on the go that want to pick up a quick bit to eat.
